CANDLE CARE

LOOKING AFTER YOUR CANDLES

Ensuring your scented candles stay looking and smelling great, requires a little bit of care, but you will be rewarded with beautiful candles that burn evenly and without smoke.

Here are our top tips for the best candle care.

TRIM YOUR WICK

Trimming your wick is an essential part of candle care. You should trim your wick to around 3mm before you burn your candle or for every 4 hours of burn time.

Trimming ensures that the candle will burn evenly, but also you will get a nice clean and even burn throughout the use of your candle.

You can use a wick trimmer to help you trim the wick, especially when it gets too low for scissors. Pinching the wick with your fingers is also an effective way of trimming your wick if you don’t have a wick trimmer.

THE FIRST BURN IS IMPORTANT

You want to ensure that the first burn melts the wax all the way to the edge of the glass. Otherwise, you get tunnelling which is wax that stays up the edges of the candles for every burn afterwards.

We recommend burning your candle for 4 hours initially to ensure that you don’t get tunnelling on the second burn.

KEEP IT CLEAN

You want to avoid any debris in your molten wax pool, so don’t leave any half burnt matches or wicks in there. The candle will start to smoke, and instead of a lovely fragrance, you will get black charring.

If you don’t trim your wick, the burnt wick will fall into the molten wax and be a potential fire hazard and often creates an unpleasant smell.

This is one step of candle care that most people ignore, but it will help your candle last longer and smell fresh every time.

FOUR HOURS BURN TIME

To minimise any damage or issues, we recommend only burning your candle for 4 hours at a time. Also, never leave a candle unattended while burning. BE SAFE

It’s critical to keep our candles away from children and pets. Plus, to avoid burning yourself don’t touch the candle until it has fully cooled.

Make sure you’re putting them somewhere safe, away from draughts and things that are flammable.

DON’T BURN BELOW 5MM

Once your candle has got to 5mm, it is time to stop burning it and replace it with a new one.

ACCIDENTAL SPILLS

If you accidentally knock or spill your candle wipe up any excess wax with paper towel and wash the area with warm soapy water. Our wax is biodegradable and will dissolve with hot water.

Washing out empty candle jars can also be done with hot water & dishwashing liquid, ensuring not to empty contents into the sink as buildup of wax may damage & clog your pipes.

REED DIFFUSER TIPS

Simply remove the screw top and place your reeds inside the jar. Position on a flat surface out of reach of children or pets and away from a risk of being knocked over. Diffuser oil if spilled can cause damage to surfaces, ensure to clean immediately.

Turn your reeds around weekly for an extra burst of fragrance (being careful not to spill on your furniture) or use less reeds for a more subtle room fragrance.

WAX MELTS CARE TIPS

To use your wax melts, you will need a wax warmer/burner. Be sure to use a wax warmer or burner that is designed specifically for wax melts.

Only place 1-2 melts on top of warmer, in the warmer bowl (part where the wax melt sits) at a time.

Place your warmer/ burner on a safe and stable surface.

Keep away from drafts and any flammable objects. If using a tea light burner, DO NOT allow the flame from the tea light candle to touch the underside of the melt bowl.

Never add water to your wax or wax warmer.

Never use heat from a stove or use any non-certified wax warmer appliance.

You can reuse the wax until the scent has faded. Either discard leftover wax or replace with another melt.

Ensure to clean your warmer regularly by discarding used wax in bin and wiping out with paper towel.

Keep out of the reach of children and pets.
